PURPOSE:To obtain the title high-modulus polyamide capable of being molded by a solution process and excellent in heat resistance and strength, containing a benzobisthiazole skeleton in the main chain. CONSTITUTION:A diamine, e.g., 2,6-(4,4'-diaminodiphenyl)benzo[1,2-d:4,5-d']bis thiazole, and an aromatic diamine, e.g., 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl ether, are dissolved in an amide solvent, e.g., N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, and 1 equivalent, per equivalent of these diamines, of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid (derivative), e.g., terephthaloyl chloride, is added to the solution and reacted to obtain an aromatic-heterocyclic ring-containing polyamide comprising 25-50mol.% struc tural units of formula I, 25-0mol.% structural units of formula II (wherein X and X' are each H, an alkoxyl or a halogen, and Y and Y' are each a direct bond, -O-, -CH2-, -S-, -SO2- or a group of any one of formulas III-V) and 50mol.% structural units of formula VI.
