PURPOSE:To prevent the gradation characteristic of luminance from being lowered even by reducing the capacity of a masking table, by setting different quantizing ranges of a luminance signal for the Y address of the masking table at every masking table of cyan, magenta, and yellow. CONSTITUTION:A table 71 generates the Y address of a cyan masking table, and a table 72 generates that of a magenta masking table, and a table 73 generates that of a yellow masking table. Also, the tables 71, 72, and 73 deviate the quantizing ranges of the luminance signal for the Y address of the masking table by a prescribed value with each other. The quantizing range of the cyan is deviated from that of the magenta by +alpha, and the quantizing range of the yellow is deviated from that of the magenta by -alpha. Therefore, since the color density of the ink of the cyan, the magenta, and the yellow change in a different levels, it is possible to realize around ten kinds of gradation in output print being constituted of the above stated three colors.
