PURPOSE:To attain objective voice message exchange or facsimile communication by stopping immediately the operation of a recording and reproducing means and transiting the communication into facsimile communication in case of detecting a non-voice terminal identification signal from a caller side. CONSTITUTION:When an incoming call is generated and an incoming detection signal is sent from a network control circuit 1 to a control section 14, the reproduction of the recording and reproducing device 13 is started to reproduce the voice signal and to output it to a telephone line via the network control circuit 1. In case of an automatic calling by an automatic facsimile communication function from the caller side, a non-voice terminal identification signal is sent immediately. When the non-voice terminal identification signal is sent from the caller side, the control section 14 stops the operation of the recording and reproducing device 13 and when the automatic incoming function is set, a CED (called station identification) signal is sent from a MODEM 2 to transit the procedure into a routine facsimile procedure.
