PURPOSE:To improve the quality of a product and to stabilize the production by forming outer circumferential surface of a cooling drum to drum type crown state having the prescribed curvature and preventing buckling deformation of a strip on the cooling drum. CONSTITUTION:The cooling drum 10 rotating at the prescribed peripheral speed, is formed to the drum type crown state having the prescribed curvature toward axial direction. At neighboring part of a weir 11, which is made of refractory for forming a pouring basin together with the drum 10, with the drum 10, the curving part is formed as the same curvature as the crown of the drum 10. Molten metal 4 or molten non-metal supplied in a weir 11 is wound up the cooling drum 10 and rapidly cooled and solidified to make the strip 5. Then, as the outer circumferential surface of the drum 10 is formed to the crown state, the buckling resistance of the curved strip is extremely increased, to prevent the buckling deformation of the strip 5. Therefore, the quality of the product is improved and the production is stabilized.
