The pit latrine emptier has a tank (1) connected via a pipe (2) to a vacuum system (3) such as a standard vacuum truck. Another pipe (8) extends from the tank and is pushed into the pit latrine (9). The vacuum system then creates a partial vacuum in the tank and sewerage from the pit latrine is drawn into the tank. - This system enables the vacuum system to remain in a relatively accessible place whilst the tank is transported on a trolley (12) to somewhere very near the pit latrine. Preferably filters are provided at the point (10) of entry of the pipe to the tank and at the point (11) of entry of the pipe to the vacuum system to prevent passage of sewage to the vacuum system. A buffer tank may be fitted between the tank and the vacuum system.(1/2) |
