PURPOSE:To realize a little influence of the up-down and right-left inclinations of a face at the time measurement and to improve measurement accuracy by specifying an original profile line and feature quantity measurement points as points having individual features such as the forehead, eyes, noise, mouth, and jaw obtained by differentiating the original profile line, and finding feature quantities such as a distance, length, area, and angles. CONSTITUTION:Differential coefficient profile lines f'(x) and f''(x) are generated by differentiating the original profile line f(x) in addition to the original profile line f(x) inputted from a television camera to obtain stable differential quantity measurement points. The differential coefficient profile line f'(x) can be emphasized as to point corresponding the feature quantity measurement points such as a point where the increase or decrease of the original profile line f(x) varies in rate abruptly, a segment where the increase or decrease of the original profile line f(x) is constant in ratio, and a point where the original profile line f(x) neither increases nor decreases. Consequently, when the up-down and right-left inclinations of the face at the time of measurement are slight, feature quantities can be extracted relatively with ease.
