NEW MATERIAL:An antibiotic RK-16 having the following physicochemical and biological properties. The appearance, colorless powder; melting point, >=230 deg.C (decomposed); elemental analysis (%), C 39.22, H 4.90, N 19.94; specific rotation, [alpha]D<20>=-19.6 deg. (H2O); mol.wt., (SI-MS)MH<+>m/Z 486; solubility, soluble in water, slightly soluble in methanol and insoluble in most of organic solvents; color reaction, positive to ninhydrin reaction and bemieux reaction; amphoteric substance; antimicrobial spectrum, exhibiting antimicrobial spectrum to plant pathogenic molds. USE:An antibiotic for agriculture exhibiting growth inhibiting action to plant pathogenic molds. PREPARATION:An antibiotic RK-16 producing bacterium belonging to the genus Streptomyces [e.g. Streptomyces espi No.16 (FERM P-9196)] is cultivated preferably at pH 7.3-7.5 and 25-35 deg.C. |
