PURPOSE:To obtain lactoferrin being an iron-binding sugar protein and having bacteriostatic action, etc., at a short time in large amounts and high purity, by treating a lactoferrin-containing raw material milk with an affinity column obtained by immobilizing a heparin on a specific hard carrier. CONSTITUTION:Heparin is immobilized on a hard carrier consisting of a crosslinked cellulose or crosslinked chitosan to afford an affinity column. A lactoferrin-containing raw material milk is passed through the above-mentioned column preferably at room temperature to adsorb the lactoferrin. Then the column is washed normally with 0.3M solution of salt and then a lactoferrin fraction is eluted preferably by 0.5M solution of salt, etc. The immobilization of the heparin on the hard carrier is e.g. carried out in the presence of a reducing agent (e.g. dimethylaminoborane), utilizing a reducing end of heparin.
