The invention relates to force or speed regulators using the attraction force developed by a magnet sliding on an armature made of ferromagnetic material. It is characterised in that the armature has, in the area scanned by the magnetic flux of the magnet, a variable magnetic permeability defined on the basis of the braking or the acceleration of the magnet and of the pieces which accompany it, the assembly being moved by a displacement force whose variable value is generally known. Among the most beneficial applications may be mentioned the control of the translation speed of the read element in appliances recording data carried on magnetic cards.
