An absorbent element 203 is impregnated, on the one hand, with an active substance, and, on the other hand, with a liquidified coolant gas which leaves, in the liquid jet state, a pressurised container 217, and the absorbent element 203 is then applied onto the skin, the coolant gas evaporating slowly, whilst causing the desired cryogenic effect, and leaving on the skin a film of active substance. The absorbent element 203 is fixed onto an applicator 202 which constitutes with it an applicator device 201. Provision is advantageously made for the device 201 to form the means for operating the exit valve of the container 217. <IMAGE>
