PURPOSE:To obtain inorganic foam useful as an incombustible building materials, etc., having excellent releasability and smooth surface, by impregnating a specific blend to inorganic release paper, drying the blend to give a paste dried layer, packing a powdery inorganic expandable raw material to the inorganic release paper and calcining. CONSTITUTION:Inorganic release paper (A) obtained by bonding 100pts.wt. inorganic short fibers such as alumina paper having about 2,000 deg.C melting point with 3-15pts.wt. adhesive organic component is placed in an expanding mold of heat-resistant steel plate. Then silas fine powder is mixed with SiC, V2O5 and water to give a pasty inorganic blend (B). Then the component B is impregnated into the component A, dried and a paste dried layer (C) having 0.5-5mm layer thickness is formed to give (D) release paper A forming the layer C. Then the release paper D is packed with dried powdery inorganic expandable raw material comprising natural glassy mineral such as silas, SiC and V2O5, fed to a calcining furnace, calcined and expanded at about 1,135 deg.C for about 30min and annealed to form inorganic foam having about 0.26g/cm<3> apparent density.
