PURPOSE:To obtain electrically conductive fibers having high electrical conductivity imparting effect and excellent surface smoothness of plastics when being filled to plastics, by changing a titanium oxide layer of fibers comprising an alkali metallic titanate to titanium nitride showing metallic conduction. CONSTITUTION:Electrically conductive titanate fibers obtained by at least partially changing a titanium oxide layer of fibers comprising an alkali metallic titanate to a titanium nitride layer. The electrically conductive fibers are obtained by the following method. Namely, the fibers comprising an alkali metallic titanate are heat-treated in an ammonia gas atmosphere at 850-1,100 deg.C for 2-15hr, the titanium oxide layer of the fibers is partially or totally nitrided into titanium nitride. The ratio of change to titanium nitride in the titanium oxide layer is preferably >=18%.
