Cables, especially underwater cables, have to withstand the mechanical stresses to which it is naturally subjected for a long time. In addition, they are intended to be resistant to maritime pests. Known underwater cables have the disadvantage that they either do not satisfy all the requirements or are voluminous and/or costly to produce. The novel underwater cable is intended to be capable of withstanding high loads, to be resistant and to be easy to handle, while being simple to produce. The underwater cable according to the invention has reinforcement (armouring, shielding) (12) consisting of a large number of Z-shaped profiled wires (14) which are interlocked with one another and are laid round a cavity-free cable core (11).
