PURPOSE:To obtain an ink jet recorder wherein exchange operation is simplified, by provided a platen which is formed of ink absorption materials and controls a recording surface of a recording medium, and a component which holds a reversing component for reserving fed ink in one united body and is detachable from the body of the ink jet recorder. CONSTITUTION:An ink tank 231 and an ink absorption material cartridge 235 are formed in one united body. In the case where an end face including a discharge opening of a recording head 101 is to be cleaned in no-recording time, the cartridge 235 and the ink tank 231 are pushed up by driving a cam 203, and an ink absorption material 236 is brought into contact with the discharge opening of the recording head 101. Ink or the like adhering to the end face of the discharge opening are thereby immediately absorbed in the ink absorption material 236, and discharge recovery by cleaning is carried out. After execution of the discharge recovery process, a layer which has absorbed the ink in the ink absorption material 236 is peeled off at an appropriate opportunity, and the ink absorption material 236 is exchanged with a new one. Then, when a residual amount of the ink in the ink tank 231 runs out, the ink tank 231 and the cartridge 235 are exchanged in a united body. |
