A screw conveyor is designed so that the casing of the conveyor worm has a straight slit running parallel to the longitudinal axis of the worm. A partition body revolving freely on an endless path is located outside the housing, and over part of its path it reaches through the slit in the housing and abuts on the worm thread with its correspondingly shaped edge, dividing the worm's groove into individual chambers between the inlet and outlet. For purposes purely of conveying, a cylindrical worm is used, while for purposes of increasing pressure, a worm tapering towards the outlet is used.
