OPTICAL RELAY TRANSMITTER

PURPOSE:To attain amplification, waveform reproduction and timing recovery of a signal light without intervention of an electric signal, and to attain multi- stage relay by utilizing the input/output characteristic of an optical bistable element. CONSTITUTION:A data signal light sent in a different wavelength and a clock signal light are demultiplexed by an optical demultiplexer 28 and a clock signal light lambdac is waveform-shaped by using the optical bistable element 32 and the clock signal lambdac and the data signal light lambdad are multiplexed by an optical multiplexer 36 and the multiplexed light is fed to the optical bistable element 37 to match the time position of the data signal light lambdad in the timing of the clock signal light lambdac. The data signal light subject to time positioning and the clock signal light subject to waveform shaping are multiplexed by an optical multiplexer 38 and sent to a transmission line L2. Thus, amplification, waveform reproduction and timing reproduction of the optical signal are applied and multi-stage relay is attained.
