PURPOSE:To enable a high accurate control of knocking to be attained, by obtaining the maximum value of detection signals from a knocking sensor by a predetermined number of times and setting a control amount of knocking being based on the statistical characteristic value of the maximum value. CONSTITUTION:A detection signal from a knocking sensor 4 is detected for its maximum value in a generation period of knocking, generated in the vicinity of at least the top dead center, by a predetermined number of times in a maximum value detecting means 5 being statistically processed in a characteristic value arithmetic means 6, and the statistical characteristic value of mean value, maximum times value, etc. is obtained. And a knocking control device, being based on this statistical characteristic values, sets a control amount of knocking of knocking decision level or the like in a control amount setting means 7, retarding, for instance, the ignition timing of a spark plug 3 to suppress generation of knocking, in the time of its generation, while advancing the ignition timing to improve a combustion condition, when no knocking is generated, by a combustion condition control means 2. In this way, a high accurate control of knocking can be performed by accurately catching a generation condition of knocking. |
