PURPOSE:To increase equivalently the number of picture elements by constituting the titled device so that images generated by image pickup elements repeatedly takes NXM-pieces of positions relatively set against picture elements, and storing output video signals from the image pickup elements in a memory device provided that N and M are positive integer >=2. CONSTITUTION:In the unit of field or frame, images generated by the image pickup elements 1R, 1G, 1B repeatingly take the NXM-pieces of positions that are relatively shifted by I/N(N is positive integer >=2, I is 0, 1,...N-1) times of horizontal picture element pitch and by M/J(M is +2 or above cipher, J is 0, 1,...M-1) times of vertical picture element pitch in the plane of an image formed by an optical system, and output signals from said image pickup elements are stored in memory devices 12R, 12G, 12B. To display in a display 11, the data are sequentially read out, so that a video image whose number of picture elements in the horizontal direction is enhanced to N times and that in the vertical direction in M times can be obtained equivalently.
