PURPOSE:To obtain a phospholipase A2 inhibitor usable as an anti-inflammatory drug based on phospholipase A2 inhibitory activity, having low toxicity, comprising a rhamnopyranosyldecanoic acid, an ester or a salt thereof as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:A rhamnopyranosyldecanoic acid shown by the formula (R<1> is H, salt-forming monovalent cation or lower alkyl; R<2> is H or alpha-L- rhamonopyranosyl), an ester or a salt thereof is blended with a carrier and an excipient for ordinary pharmaceutical preparation and pharmaceutically manufactured by a conventional procedure to give the aimed substance. The substance is orally or parenterally administered and a dose is 100-1,000mg per adult daily. beta-(beta-(2-O-alpha-L-Rhamnopyranosyloxy)decanoyloxy)decanoic acid may be cited as the compound shown by the formula. The compound is obtained from a culture solution of Pseudomonas sp. Q-74 strain (FERM P-9220) collected from sea sand of Okinawa.
