PURPOSE:To improve a power factor, by a method wherein a full-wave rectifying circuit and a rectifying and smoothing circuit, whose voltage is lower than the voltage of the full-wave rectifying circuit, are provided and connected in parallel to one another. CONSTITUTION:An electric power is supplied from a commercial AC power source 11 to an inverter 18 through a full-wave rectifying circuit 12 consisting of a diode bridge. A smoothing circuit 13, rectifying and smoothing the AC power source 11, is composed of a voltage regulating circuit 14, converting the AC power source 11 into low voltage AC, another full-wave rectifying circuit 15 and a smoothing capacitor 16 while the output terminal of the smoothing circuit 13 is connected to the output terminals of said full-wave rectifying circuit 12 through a diode 17. According to this constitution, the trough part of the output voltage of the full-wave rectifying circuit 12 is filled up with the output voltage of the smoothing circuit 13, accordingly the quiescent time of the input current of the AC power source 11 becomes shorter than the same so far and the peak value may be reduced whereby a power factor may be increased.
