PURPOSE:To save labor and to reset a rotation limit by resetting the limit state of a rotary shaft automatically. CONSTITUTION:The specific distance for the Z-axial backward movement of a sensor head 2 is set in a profile measurement arithmetic part 40. Then when a profile measurement start command is inputted from a console panel 60 to an NC control part 30, profile measuring operation is performed. When the limit position of the rotary shaft is detected during measurement, the sensor head 2 is moved back by the specific distance in the axial direction of the rotary shaft, which is then rotated by one turn in the opposite direction from the detection direction of the limit position to further move the sensor head 2 back by the specific distance in the opposite direction from the backward movement direction, thereby resetting the limit state of the rotary shaft automatically.
