PURPOSE:To spread the dynamic range of a signal by increasing the number reading charges stored in a photosensitive section to a vertical transfer section by plural times and previously storing the charges in a plurality of memory sections. CONSTITUTION:A first memory section 11 is formed so that the charges of vertical transfer sections 2 can be transferred in series at every vertical transfer section 2. Second memory sections 13 are shaped respectively so that the charges of each memory section 11 can be transferred through transfer gates 12 in parallel. Other ends of the memory sections 11 and the corresponding ends of the memory sections 13 are connected in parallel with a horizontal transfer section 17, and charges at every one line can be transferred respectively to the horizontal transfer section 17. The transfer charges of each pair of separate memory section 11 and memory sections 13 in the horizontal transfer section 17 are synthesized mutually, and can be output from an output amplifier 5 in series. According to such constitution, the storage charges of a photosensitive section 1 are transferred twice. Consequently, when charges are read once for one vertical scanning period, charges, which cannot be stored in the vertical transfer sections 2 and overflow, are also extracted as a signal. |
