PURPOSE:To obtain the titled stable tasteless, odorless, nontoxic and weak acidic neutral composition containing ferrous hexose phosphate or a ferric compound and hexose phosphate without causing a change in color, odor, liquid property, etc. CONSTITUTION:A germicidal and antimicrobial composition obtained by adding ferrous hexose phosphate (e.g. ferrous glucose-1-phosphate) or a ferric compound and hexose phosphate and further preferably a reducing agent (e.g. ascorbic acid) and/or alum. The amount of the ferrous hexose phosphate blended in this germicidal.antimicrobial agent is preferably 1-20wt.% and the amount of the blended hexose phosphate and ferric compound may be such that the final blending amount corresponds to the range of the amount of the blended ferrous hexose phosphate. The above-mentioned composition is used by directly adding, spraying or dipping in food in the case of an aqueous solution or impregnated into paper, cloth, etc., to package a food. |
