PURPOSE:To obtain an oxide superconductor, capable of exhibiting a high critical temperature and usable as Josephson devices, etc., by constituting the superconductor from an oxide containing plural elements selected from group IIIa elements of the periodic table, an alkaline earth metallic element and copper. CONSTITUTION:Two or more kinds of powder containing group IIIa elements (e.g. scandium oxide or yttrium oxide) of the periodic table are mixed with powder containing a group IIa alkaline earth metallic element (e.g. barium carbonate or beryllium carbonate) of the periodic table and copper oxide powder. The resultant mixed powder is then fired and formed to afford the aimed superconductor expressed by the formula A-B-Cu-O (Sc is at least two elements, such as Sc, Y and La, selected from group IIIa elements of the periodic table; B is group IIa alkaline earth metallic element, such as Be, Sr or Ba, of the periodic table). Thereby the layered perovskite type superconductor capable of exhibiting a high critical temperature can be obtained.
