PURPOSE:To efficiently treat waste water, by dividing the interior of a container into upper and lower parts and constituting the upper part as an algae part where adhesive filamentous algae proliferate while constituting the lower part as a heterotrophic part where a heterotroph proliferates and allowing both parts to communicate with each other by a communication passage to form an endless flow passage where a water recirculation apparatus is arranged. CONSTITUTION:When air is introduced through an air diffusion pipe under pressure, a mixture of waste water and microbes is recirculated through an endless flow passage in the direction shown by an arrow. During the day, the adhesive filamentous algae (f) adhered to the upper adhesive surface (f) of an algae part (a) absorb sun rays to perform photosynthesis and, at the same time, absorb oxygen supplied by the air introduced under pressure, re-aeration and photosynthesis to proliferate. As a result, BOD, N and P in the waste water are removed to purify the waste water. In a heterotrophic part (h), aerobic bacteria absorb the residual oxygen from the algae part (a) to proliferate and BOD, N and P are similarly removed to purify the waste water. During the night, aerobic bacteria and adhesive filamentous algae (f) proliferate by oxygen supplied by the air introduced under pressure and re-aeration to purify the waste water.
