PURPOSE:To improve durability and short wavelength output by providing projections consisting of circumferentially oriented fine acicular particles as nuclei to a thin ferromagnetic metallic film. CONSTITUTION:The thin ferromagnetic metallic film is so formed as to have the projections consisting of the circumferentially oriented fine acicular particles as nuclei. For example, a fine particle coating layer 2 arranged and fixed with the fine acicular particles of iron oxide, iron nitride, etc., on a nonmagnetic substrate 1 by circumferentially orienting the same is provided on the substrate and after the fine particles are coated, the particles are subjected to a magnetic field orientation; further, the magnetic recording layer 3 constituted of the thin ferromagnetic metallic film is provided. The stresses received by the high- speed sliding contact with a magnetic head are thus dispersed by the projections to be formed of the circumferentially arranged fine acicular particles and, therefore, breakdown is prevented and since the sliding is stabilized, noises are eliminated and the formation of a thinner protective film 4 is permitted. The short wavelength output is thereby improved and the excellent C/N and durability are simultaneously obtd.
