PURPOSE:To prevent the saturation of brightness by applying two times of charge transfer at one field to a drive circuit of an inter line CCD, sweeping out an electric charge of a level or over at a first time and transferring all electric charges at a second time horizontally. CONSTITUTION:A photosensing section 1 comprising a CCD transfers the electric charge generated in response to the photodetection quantity from an object to a vertical transfer section 2. A pulse generated in a CCD drive pulse generating circuit 5 is supplied to a transfer control circuit 6, which applies the charge transfer from the photosensing section 1 to the vertical transfer section 2 twice for one field period. The amplitude of the 1st transfer pulse is controlled to transfer conversely electric charges generated from the photosensing section 1 over a prescribed level and give them to a sweeping drain 3, and transfers all electric charges of the section 1 by using the 2nd transfer pulse to a horizontal transfer section 4 for the output. Thus, the saturation of the brightness at the light part is prevented to obtain a picture with excellent gradation.
