PURPOSE:To improve the correcting efficiency of a disk recording system, by forming cross-interleave codes inside a sector and group and repeating correcting operations in both one and the other directions. CONSTITUTION:The recording data of Figure (a) are once stored in a memory 6 through a control circuit 9 as shown in Figure (b). A correction circuit 7 produces error correcting codes from inputted data by using each sector as a unit and another correction circuit 8 successively produces the error correcting code of a group as shown in Figure (d) from the data stored in the memory 6 and error correcting codes produced by and supplied from the circuit 7. The error correcting code of the group cannot be produced finally unless all data of (n) pieces of sectors and error correcting code of each sector are obtained, but calculation is successively carried out to the input time of each sector. Therefore, the error correcting code of the group can be produced quickly when the error correcting code of the final sector is produced.
