The machine tool spindle motor has a built-in rotational position sensor. It comprises a first toothed plate (12) or gear that is fixed to one end of the motor's output shaft (10) and serves for detection of the output shaft rotational speed. A speed sensor (16) faces and functions cooperatively with the 1st toothed plate. A second toothed plate (14) or gear is fixed to the output shaft next to the first toothed plate and serves for detection of the rotational position of the output shaft. A rotational position sensor (18) functions cooperatively with the second toothed plate.
