PURPOSE:To automatically perform a preview, by causing a 1st VTR to reproduce a no-signals section when a 2nd VTR simultaneously records and reproduces signals inputted from the 1st VTR after reproduction and inhibiting detecting operations when the 2nd VTR is practically set to a non-recording state. CONSTITUTION:The 2nd VTR (video tape recorder) 4 simultaneously records and reproduces signals inputted from the 1st VTR after reproduction and a detecting circuit 15 detects the presence/absence of the reproduced signal of the VTR 4 and causes a displaying means 18 to display abnormality when no reproduced signal exists. A control circuit 5 controls the operation of the 1st or 2nd VTR 4. When the 1st VTR practically reproduces a no-video or no-sound section or when the 2nd VTR 4 is practically set to a non-recording state, control circuits 5 and 17 actuate a mute circuit 16 so as to mute the output of the detecting circuit 15 practically. Therefore, the recording state of the 2nd VTR can be inspected accurately simultaneously with recording and the succeeding previewing operations can be omitted.
