PURPOSE:To simplify a loop control device by furnishing a loop amount sensor in the reference position when the material to form loop is in a certain desired amount, and by adjusting the speed of a loop forming roller when any abnormality in loop amount is sensed. CONSTITUTION:Material 1 forms a free loop with the aid of No.1 and No.2 rolls 2, 3. The position where the loop bottom with optimum loop amount 22 of pre-determined loop amount 13, is used as the reference position 16, and there a loop sensor is mounted which consists of a light emitting sensor 17 and a light receiving sensor 18. A timing pulse from the light receiving element 18 when the loop amount has attained the optimum amount 22 and the loop bottom passed the sensors 17, 18, is used as trigger for a revolving speed deviation sensor 21 to sense the revolving speed deviation of No.1 and No.2 rolls 2, 3. The result is converted into line speed by a speed converter 25, and rotation of No.3 roll 5 is controlled to serve control of the loop amount.
