There is provided stable, ophthalmic aqueous composition for topical administration, comprising (a) acetazolamide and either (b) a pre-formed, pharmaceutically acceptable, aqueous gel or (c) an aqueous gel-forming liquid capable of forming a pharmaceutically acceptable gel in situ when applied topically to a patient; said composition having a pH of less than 5.0.
