PURPOSE:To stabilize an immobilized bacterium carrier, by adding a slightly soluble carbonate such as polyacrylate gel or alginic acid gel to be gelatinized by a polyvalent metallic ion and immobilizing a bacterium by anaerobic fermentation. CONSTITUTION:A slightly soluble carbonate is added to a substance such as polyacrylate gel or alginic acid gel, a material to immobilize bacteria for anaerobic fermentation, to be gelatinized by a polyvalent metallic ion and the bacteria for anaerobic fermentation are immobilized by anaerobic fermentation. To be concrete, a carrier sol is blended with anaerobic bacteria and the slightly soluble carbonate while stirring to prepare an anaerobic bacteria-containing carrier sol. Then the sol is successively crosslinked with calcium ion to give an aerobic bacteria immobilized gel. The amount of calcium carbonate added to the carrier material is about 1-30g/l, preferably about 1-10g/l carrier.
