PURPOSE:To load/unload an IC card to/from a printer while keeping a power supply for a typewriter at turning-on by resetting a control circuit in the printer in accordance with an IC card load/unload detecting signal. CONSTITUTION:The loading/unloading of an IC card to/from the printer is detected by detecting means 15, 16, and when a RESET terminal of a CPU 20 is brought to a low level by detecting signals outputted from the means 15, 16, the CPU 20 is reset and disconnected from the IC card 30. Whether the IC card is inserted or disconnected to/from a connector is decided by reading out a PORT 2 signal and deciding whether the signal is a low level or not. When the IC card is inserted into the connector, an IC card using system program is started.
