PURPOSE:To efficiently recover sensible heat of hot exhaust gas and to execute preheating of the charge in a converter under good thermal efficiency by adjusting grain diameter of the charging raw material at a small size and adding the charging material while widely dispersing in the high temp. exhaust gas flow passage. CONSTITUTION:In oxygen blowing refining in the converter arranging a waste gas collecting hood and a waste gas cooler at the upper part thereof, the grain diameter of the charging material is adjusted to 0.5-1.0mm of small lump. The small lump of charging material is descended as oppositing to high temp. ascending waste gas flow generated during blowing and dropped while dispersing in the ascending flow of the waste gas. The sensible heat of the waste gas in dropping process of small lump raw material is efficiently recovered to execute the preheating of the charging material. By this preheating method, the charging capacity of ore is increased and the productivity is improved, and also consumptions of carbonic material and oxygen as heat source can be reduced.
