PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain hydrochlorinated product of myrcene having high content of geranyl and neryl chloride useful as an intermediate of perfume, by reacting myrcene with hydrochloride in the presence of a copper catalyst and organic sulfide. CONSTITUTION:Myrcene expressed by formula I is reacted with hydrochloride in the presence of (A) a copper catalyst, especially copper (I) chloride and (B) an organic sulfide having about 1-20C chain or cyclic alkyl group, aryl group (phenyl, p-tolyl, naphthyl group, etc.) or aralkyl group (benzyl, beta-phenylethyl group, etc.) in order to simultaneously carry out hydrochlorination reaction of myrcene and isomerization reaction of linalyl chloride to geranyl or neryl chloride to provide the reaction product having high geranyl or neryl chloride content expressed by formulas II-III in the hydrochlorinated product of myrcene expressed by formulas II-VI at a short time. |
