PURPOSE:To obtain a deoxidation agent for roast coffee capable of extremely efficiently and almost simultaneously absorbing two kinds of gases, i.e. O2 and CO2, by using a metal chelate resin, iron powder and an alkaline substance as constituent components. CONSTITUTION:The objective agent is composed of (A) a metal chelate resin produced by bonding metal ions other than Pb<2+>, Cd<2+> and Cr<3+> to a basic anion exchange resin or to a resin obtained by bonding a chelating agent to the exchange resin, (B) iron powder and (C) an alkaline substance such as calcium hydroxide and soda lime. 1pt.wt. of the metal chelate resin is mixed with about 0.6-100pts.wt. of the iron powder on dry basis and 1pt.wt. of the obtained mixture and 1-20pts.wt. of the alkaline substance are sealed in a gas-permeable bag in separated state.
