PURPOSE:To prevent the embroidered surface of an automobile mat from being frayed and damaged and also to prevent projections on the rear surface of a packing layer from being deformed, by directly embroidering a base fabric for the mat so as to form the embroidered surface caving in piles and to form the packing layer on the rear surface of the base fabric. CONSTITUTION:A fiber mat 14 as an automobile mat 11 formed on the rear surface thereof with a packing layer 15 is embroidered directly in its base fabric 12 such as a synthetic fiber fabric, an woven fabric or the like so that an embroidered surface 16 is formed caving in piles 14 planted on the embroidered mat 14. Slip preventing projections 19 are formed on the whole surface of the packing layer 15 laid on the rear surface of the embroidered mat 14 at predetermined intervals. During manufacture of this mat 11, the base fabric 12 is directly embroidered so as to form the embroidered surface 16. Then the piles 13 are planted on the base fabric 12 in the part other than the embroidered surface 16 which therefore caves in the piles 13. Then, the packing layer having its rear surface formed over its entire surface with the projections 19, is formed on the rear surface of thus manufactured fiber mat 14.
