PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound which is an aggregation pheromone of Tribolium castaneum, easily in high yield using short process comprising 4 steps, by using a specific compound as a starting substance, eliminating acyloxy group of the compound with palladium acetate and hydrogenating the product. CONSTITUTION:10-Acetoxy-4,8-dimethyl-4,8-decadienal of formula I is subjected to azeotropic dehydration with ethylene glycol in benzene solution in the presence of p-toluenesulfonic acid, the aldehyde group is protected with acetal and the obtained compound of formula II is dissolved in dioxane, refluxed in the presence of palladium acetate of formula Pd(OAc)2 and triphenylphosphine to eliminate acyloxy group and hydrogenated in ethanol solution in the presence of a Pd/C catalyst to obtain the compound of formula III. The objective compound of formula IV can be produced by reducing the acetal group of the compound of formula III in a solution of 1N hydrochloric acid and acetone.
