PURPOSE:To prevent the phenomenon of what is called 'picture missing' which occurs at the time of switching a focal distance by converting and storing a video signal which has been detected by means of a multi focus lens into an electric output signal by means of a photoelectric conversion element and outputting the output signal from the storage means when the focal distance is switched. CONSTITUTION:In a normal state, a CCD2 which has been driven by a clock driver 8 image-forms the video signal from an image. pickup lens 1, converts it into the electric signal and outputs it as the output signal. At the time of switching the focal distance of the image pickup lens 1, a frame synchronous circuit 9 synchronizes with a frame signal (b) which comes just after a focal point variable signal (e), and transmits a lens shifting signal (f) to the image pickup lens 1 for shifting the image pickup lens 1 only that period on the one hand, and transmits a read signal (g) to a frame memory 6 so as to set it in a read state and transmits a switch alternation signal to a video SW4 so as to alternate and outputs frame information stored in a frame memory 6 as a video output on the other hand.
