PURPOSE:To improve the wear resistance of a magnetic core via thin films having high wear resistance by forming a magnetic head into the construction in which the thin films having the wear resistance higher than the wear resistance of thin magnetic metallic films are formed at the boundary face between a ferromagnetic oxide and welding glass and at the boundary face between the thin magnetic metallic films and the welding glass. CONSTITUTION:This magnetic head is formed by butting a pair of magnetic core halves consisting of the ferromagnetic oxide formed with the thin magnetic metallic films 2 on the butt surfaces against each other via a magnetic gap G and joining the core half bodies by glass welding. This head is made into the construction in which the thin films 4 having the wear resistance higher than the wear resistance of the thin films 2 are formed at the boundary face between the ferromagnetic oxide and the welding glass and the boundary face between the thin films 2 and the welding glass 3. The thin films having the high wear resistance are formed by laminating a thin Cr film and thin SiO2 film and the thin Cr film is formed on the side in contact with the welding glass. The effect of improving the wear resistance of the magnetic core and the durability of the magnetic head is thereby obtd.
