PURPOSE:To hold a stable image forming function by providing a fur brush preprocessing means, which is operated before the start of an image forming process, for a conductive fur brush. CONSTITUTION:The brush preprocessing means which preliminarily eliminates toner on a conductive fur brush 71 is provided; and before the start of the image forming process, the conductive fur brush 71 is preparatorily rotated and the fur brush preprocessing means is operated. An electric charge giving member 75 is provided as the preprocessing means, and it is preferable that the conductive fur brush 71 is rotated at a high speed only during operation of the electric charge giving member 75. Since the tone whose electrostatically charged state is attenuated and attraction to the fur brush is weakened a long time after the end of copying is recovered before the start of the image forming process, a stable cleaning effect is obtained.
