PURPOSE:To input necessary information without troubling an operator, by encoding information required for retrieval on a microfiche side and automatically setting the codes in a control system after reading them. CONSTITUTION:A microfiche F is formed in such a way that numerous frame pictures P1, P2... are imprinted on a film substrate 91 and information required for retrieval is recorded on the upper end section of the substrate 91, where no frame picture is imprinted, in the form of bar codes 92. When loading of a film is started, the bar codes 92 are read by means of a reading sensor and read information is stored in the RAM of a control system. Therefore, the information required for retrieval can be inputted and set correctly without troubling the operator.
