PURPOSE:To obtain cerium-contg. quartz glass for laser free from inclusion and having optically very high quality, high output and high efficiency by adopting a sol-gel process in specified producing stages. CONSTITUTION:In a first stage, sol contg. at least a silicon compd. and a cerium compd. is converted into gel and dried to form dry gel. In a second stage, the pores in the dry gel are sealed to form a glass body or a glass precursor. In a third stage, the glass body or precursor is heated to 1,500-2,200 deg.C and held for a certain time to obtain cerium-contg. quartz glass for laser. Cooling from 1,200 deg.C to room temp. after the heat treatment at 1,500-2,200 deg.C is preferably carried out by slow cooling at least once. |
