PURPOSE:To prevent the degradation of a rewritable optical disk by inhibiting information recording in case of the number of times of recording larger than a prescribed value but permitting information recording otherwise. CONSTITUTION:When address information indicating the sector position of a recording object and recording information are inputted to a control means 3 from a host computer 2, a sector Z as a management sector 1a of a track X is reproduced and the control means 3 obtains a number N of times of recording from reproduced information. When the control means 3 outputs the read number N of times of recording, a comparing part 7 compares this number N with a prescribed value Nl and inputs relations between them to the control means 3. In the case of N>=Nl, the control means 3 outputs information, which indicates that information recording is inhibited, to the host computer 2. Since the same position is not used a prescribed number of times or more by this method, degradation of the recording medium and its protective film of an optical disk is prevented.
