Speedometer and display for sailboard - has indicator mounted next to mast supplied by optical signal from LED via optical fibre

A conventional speed-through-the-water transducer (3) is mounted on the underside of the sailboard just forward of the centre-board (2) or keel-fin. The magnetic field signal generated by the transducer is detected and processed by an electronic unit (4) fixed to the upper surface of the board. The speed-related signal is converted to an optical signal by a LED and transmitted along an optical fibre (5) to the display unit (6) which is set into the sail (8) next to the mast (7) at shoulder level. The ends of the fibre are retained in the two units by rubber grips which also provide waterproofing.
