PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of creases, image deviation, or the like at the time of fixing by opening and closing an open/close cover provided on a slot, to which an envelope or the like is thrown, to change the fixing pressure. CONSTITUTION:A fixing device 40 consists of a heat roll 41 which is brought into contact with the surface where an image is transferred of a form, a pressure roll 42 which presses the form, a pressure member 50 which holds the pressure roll and presses this roll to the heat roll, and a pressure converting member 60 which converts the pressing force of the pressure member by opening/closing of an open/close cover 33. By opening the open/close cover 33 in the case of throwing the envelope to the slot, the pressure changing member 60 is operated while interlocking with the open/close cover to change the pressing force of the pressurizing member 50. Thus, the pressing force of the pressurizing roll is set to a prescribed value adapted to the envelope to prevent the occurrence of creases, image deviation, or the like at the time of fixing.
