PURPOSE:To easily and accurately measure the temp. distribution in a furnace, by propagating an audible sonic wave from the transmitter outside the furnace and measuring the propagation times in a plurality of propagation directions to calculate the sonic velocity distribution in the furnace. CONSTITUTION:An audible sonic wave propagates through a furnace 3 from the sound source 1 connected to the furnace 3 through a probe 2 to be received by the sound converter 6 in the probe 4 on the opposite side. The output of the sound converter 6 and that of the sound converter 61 arranged to the probe 2 connected to the sound source 1 are inputted to a data analyzing and operational processing part 5 through amplifiers 11, 12 and filters 13, 13. In the apparatus 5, a propagation time is operated from the difference between the signals of the sound converters 6, 61 by a propagation time operation part 52 through an A/D converter 51. Subsequently, the correction for subtracting the propagation time in the probe 4 from the operated time is performed by a propagation time correcting operation part 53 and the temp. distribution in the furnace 3 is calculated from sonic velocity distribution by a temp. distribution operation part 54 and the value thereof is sent to a control terminal 55, a display device 56 and a memory device 57.
