摘要 PURPOSE:To prevent disturbance in orientation of liquid crystal molecules at the time of sealing a liquid crystal and to improve the contrast ratio of a liquid crystal electrooptic element by providing a guide groove for the liquid crystal near the liquid crystal injection hole of at least one of substrates. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal guide groove 5 is provided by etching on the lower substrate 1 so as to be positioned perpendicularly in the rubbing direction of the substrate and right under the liquid crystal injection hole 4 of the upper substrate 2. The upper substrate and the lower substrate are adhered to each other via a sealing material 3. The inside and outside of this empty cell are maintained in a vacuum state and the liquid crystal is sealed therein. The liquid crystal, therefore, infiltrates preferentially into the part of the liquid crystal guide groove where the cell thickness is large at the time of the injection thereof; thereafter, the liquid crystal begins to infiltrate into the thin part of the cell. Since, the liquid crystal infiltrates into the cell along the rubbing direction of the substrates in this case, the orientation of the liquid crystal molecules is hardly disturbed. The contrast ratio of the liquid crystal electrooptic element is thereby improved.
