PURPOSE:To improve the work safety at manufacturing by dispersing catalyst particles and fluoro-resin in aqueous solution containing surfactant and preparing a viscous concentrate mixed with catalyst particles and fluoro-resin granules, so that an electrode catalyst layer is formed. CONSTITUTION:Dispersions of catalyst particles and fluoro-resin are added to an aqueous solution containing a specific amount of surfactant to disperse. Next, the dispersed system prepared in foregoing process is condensed or dried, and then water is added to form a viscous concentrate mixed with catalyst particles and fluoro-resin granules. Then, the concentrated mixture is kneaded to make fiber-like fluoro-resin granules and a paste is obtained. Next, roll- molding of the paste forms an electrode catalyst layer. Since aggregation using organic solvent is not carried out in this process, good grain dispersion and improved characteristics are indicated in the obtained electrode catalyst layer. Since no organic solvent exists in the heat concentration process, ignition hazard does not occur improving work safety. |
